Southern Stars

Southern Stars Competitions!

Building on the success of last year’s live cooking demonstrations and competitions, we are excited to announce the commencement of Southern Stars in 2009. Southern Stars is a series of competitions held at South Island Hospitality Show to find the South Island’s best professionals.

That’s the first prize for the winners of the Southern Stars Culinary Challenge at the South Island Hospitality Show being held at Christchurch’s Westpac Arena on June 21st and 22nd. Second Place receives $500 and third place; $250
 
We’ve teamed up with Burns & Ferrall, NZ King Salmon and Nestle Professional to give professional chefs of the South Island the opportunity to prove themselves in the furnace of culinary competition and in doing so be in with the opportunity to become the Southern Stars’ of the South Island Culinary Scene and up to $1,000 better off.


 

 

 

This is a first come first in basis – so don’t delay, send off your application form today. If you are a current financial member of the New Zealand Chefs Association you receive a $10 discount on the cost of registration.

Entries Close on May 31st 2009

There will be five heats each day – once your application has been received you will be informed of your cook-off time. (Applications received and spaces allocated on a first come, first in basis – every effort will be made to accommodate all interested participants)
 
The Burns & Ferrall Kitchen Arena will have :
6 ring gas top and oven (Garland S286)
A 900mm Stainless Steel Work Bench for each competitor.
Shared refrigeration space.
 
Note: Crockery, utensils, bench top equipment is the responsibility of each competitor. No trolleys allowed in the competition arena during each cook off.
 

Prizes in each category:

*Young Professional and **Professional are:

$1,000 First

$500 Second

$250 Third

 
*Young Professional – any chef that works in the South Island who will be no older than 23 on Sunday June 21st. Proof is required.
 
** Professional – any chef aged 24 and over. Anyone younger than 24 on the day of the competition MUST enter the Young Professional Category.
